A new variant of my model railway brazier, now in TT Gauge

← All posts

After a lovely weekend at the Guildford Model Railway Show — my first proper outing as a trader — I came away buzzing with ideas (and not just from the tea and bacon baps). You can read more about the show here if you fancy a peek behind the scenes: Astolat 2025 show report.

One thing that struck me while chatting to visitors and fellow modellers was just how much love there is for the little details — those tiny touches that breathe life into a scene. One of my most popular pieces has been the OO gauge animated brazier, a simple structure but one that seems to really resonate with railway modellers looking to add a bit of gritty, industrial character to a layout. So, inspired by the show and the many conversations I had, I've created a new version of the brazier — based on feedback from the show.

What's New?

This latest version keeps the much-loved rusted weathering of the original — that flaky, burnt-orange patina that suggests years of use, neglect, and hard winters. But now, I've made it in TT gauge — much, much smaller than OO gauge — but I've managed to keep everything that makes the original popular.

The light pulses gently, giving the impression of glowing embers or a small fire still smouldering — perfect for a yard scene, a workshop corner, or anywhere you want a hint of life and activity on your layout. Unlike the original version, I've chosen to leave off the base on this one, so it's easier to blend directly into your scene. Whether you're building a scrapyard corner, a wartime vignette, or a lonely signal box scene, this brazier is ready to drop straight into place.

Why This One?

As ever, each one is handmade with care — the wood timbers poking out the top are individually made and placed, and the rust effects are done by hand. No two are quite the same. I'll be making a few of these to start with, so if you'd like one, keep an eye on the shop.

Thanks again to everyone who stopped by at Guildford. Your support, enthusiasm, and curiosity genuinely fuel what I do. I've got a few more ideas simmering away as a result… but more on that another day.
